From 1951 to 1957, I attended Bablake School in Coventry where I failed to make a significant impression but did keep fit cycling to school most days. I managed to obtain 7 GCE 'O' levels at the age of 14 followed by 2 others, Latin and Chemistry, on re-sits the following year. Although I took my 'A' levels, my interest in academia had by now failed and I flunked all 3 exams having already obtained a position with a local laboratory (Alfred Herbert Ltd.). Here is a photo from the 1950's with ADA Jones as form master. I'm back row, 2nd right. Are you here? Click on the photo for enlargement (it's quite big)
For much more archive material and tales from the old school, visit the website of a former pupil and master at Bablake, Charles Cook. This site, in my view contains better archive material than the Bablake site.
